What is Endocrinology?

Endocrinology is the study of all of the hormones produced by the endocrine system. These hormones play a major role in the human body to control and regulate multiple functions such as energy and metabolism. The major endocrine glands include the thyroid, pancreas, adrenal, pituitary, ovaries, and testes.

Treatment of Diabetes

Diabetes is focused on the regulation of blood glucose (sugar) and how glucose is further metabolized by the surrounding muscle tissue. The release of insulin from the beta cells in the pancreas is the main hormonal regulator of blood glucose. Various forms of medical treatment exist that can alter the effectiveness of insulin on the surrounding tissue and result in a normal blood glucose and a reduction in diabetic complications.

Treatment for Metabolism Disorders

Metabolism essentially is the regulation of the body’s ability to burn off calories at an appropriate rate in response to food intake. Current research continues to study the most effective methods of enhancing  the body’s metabolism. Several medications are now FDA approved that can assist patients with safely improving their metabolism.
